The Experience

Fishing License

Newfoundland & Labrador Fishing Licence

All anglers, both residents and non-resident, are required to obtain a salmon license to fish on scheduled salmon waters. Your Newfoundland & Labrador salmon fishing license will be issued upon your arrival at The Lodge. If you already have one, please bring it with you.

Whether you're a novice or seasoned angler, you'll find many opportunities for some great wet and dry fly fishing on both rivers, the Northwest Feeder and the Hawke River. Each day, you will travel from the main camp by boat to your respective beat and from there; travel up and down the river at your own free will. When hunger strikes, you can return to the main camp for lunch or "rough it" and have lunch on the river.

What To Bring

What do you need during your adventure on the Hawke River? We've put together the following list of supplies and equipment just to give you a hand with packing for your trip. Please keep in mind that you will be travelling by floatplane. Complete your packing, but keep it as light and as small as possible.

  • Warm clothing
  • Salmon flies
  • Rain gear
  • Camera
  • Hip and/or chest waders
  • Personal toiletries, medicine
  • Polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent
  • Fishing tackle
  • Fishing rods, reels and lines
  • Bug jacket

Fly Tier Kits

Though it always helpful - and highly recommended - to come well prepared for your salmon trip at Hawke River Outfitters, we always try to keep a good selection of flies available for purchase. If you're a fly tier, bring a small kit so you can be ready for all situations. If not, we suggest that if you are bringing 6 flies of a particular pattern, please include 1 size #4, 3 size #6, 1 size #8 and 1 size #10.

If you don't have a great fly shop in your area, or don't have access to a good salmon fly tier, please let us know well in advance, and we will have a selection ready for you at camp.
